1.  What is Reiki?

Reiki pronounced (Ray-Key) is Universal Life Force Energy. Reiki is a Japanese technique for healing, stress reduction and relaxation. It is based on the belief that energy flows through living organisms. This unseen energy is typically referred to as ‘Life Force Energy’ or Ki. Practitioners believe that Ki is all around us and can be harnessed by the mind. Many cultures, past and present have shared the belief in this unseen force and in the interconnectedness of all life. It is believed that one is more vulnerable to stress and illness when reserves of life energy are low.

Reiki practitioners believe that they can channel this Reiki energy to help their patients, by breaking up negative energy and replacing it with positive healing energy which passes through the hands of the therapist. The hands of experienced Reiki practitioners are said to grow hot when giving treatment.

Basically, Reiki promotes and accelerates healing of the body-mind-spirit through the use of gentle touch and simple transfer of energy.

2. Who can receive Reiki treatment?

The treatments are suitable for anyone at any age and as there is no physical movement involved, it can be suitable even for the very frail. Plants, animals and situations can also receive Reiki.

In cases of terminal illness great benefit can be obtained from an enhancement of the quality of life giving a sense of peace and acceptance during the time remaining.

4. Is Reiki an alternative to medicine?

No. Reiki is a complementary treatment that runs side by side with ordinary medical treatments. Reiki helps the body healing itself but it is not an alternative to visiting your GP should you need to. Reiki should be thought more as a complement to modern medicine, not a replacement. Reiki can help you heal faster, and sometime reduce medication, etc; However, you should continue to consult with your doctor or primary caregiver to monitor your progress and guide you. Please tell your doctor that you are receiving Reiki. Nowadays, more and more doctors are becoming familiar with Reiki and some are even taking classes.

5. How long will a treatment take?

Approximately 1 hour but 2 hours should be allowed depending on the treatment needed as there will be a preliminary discussion prior the treatment and a further discussion following the treatment.

6. What does a treatment involve?

Reiki is a ‘hand on’ healing treatment, beginning at the head, working on specific points on the body and finishing with the feet. As the receiver of Reiki, the patient lies fully clothed on a professional therapist couch. The practitioner gently rest their hands on specific locations corresponding to the major organs, chakras (energy centres) and endocrine glands of the body. Patients receiving Reiki often settle into a profound state of relaxation, peace and well-being. A relaxing music is played during the session and an incense is also burning to provide a gentle and smooth addition to the atmosphere that Reiki brings.

7. I am on medication, does it matter?

Yes. We will always discuss with you prior the Reiki treatment to ascertain what, if any, prescribed medicines you are currently taking so that appropriate recommendations will be provided.

8. Is Reiki safe for children?

Yes. Completely safe. However, children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian if treatment is required. The body will only take what  Reiki it needs.

9. Can it helps me sleep?

Yes. A little exercise will be explained and demonstrated to you after the treatment so that you will be able to do it yourself to enable you to sleep like a baby within minutes.

10. Does Reiki hurt?

No. Some people report a feeling of warmth, tingling sensations or a gentle feeling of waves of energy and an extreme relaxation during the treatment; while others are aware of certain colours, their emotions or thoughts. Each experience is unique and will be right for you on your healing journey. Reiki can only be used for the highest good. If someone tries to use Reiki for negative purposes, it simply won’t work.

11. Does it work on animals?

Yes. In fact all living things will benefit from Reiki. Animals, including wild animals, intuitively recognise and appreciate Reiki's ability to heal. They often quickly learn to seek it out on their own. Animals often respond more quickly to Reiki Healing than people do and positive results are usually seen in a relatively short period of time.

Reiki heals at all levels of an animal's being and does not cause stress discomfort or pain. It  is an effective form of complementary animal healing and using it alongside veterinary treatments can accelerate the healing process, ease pain, and improve, or help to continue the animal's quality of life.
